It All Happened Friday

CONGRATULATIONS, ALAN!: Alan Yoshioka of Harry's Music Store, second from left, was congratulated by Naomi Masuno, left, Karen Keawehawaii and Wayne H. Kirihara, senior vice president of Central Pacific Bank, after he received the Retail Merchants of Hawaii "Retail Employee of the Year" award during the 2004 Ho'okela Awards in the Hilton Hawaiian Village Coral Ballroom. Singer Keawehawaii was Yoshioka's date for the event and suggested that since CPB employee Masuno had nominated Yoshioka for the award she should also be the one to take home the white orchid centerpiece.

NOT FOR THE SQUEAMISH!: Dorothy Stamp assessed the health and mental stability of Gerard Elmore before admitting him to the Hawaii International Film Festival screening of "public access: EPISODE 04 of 05" at the Honolulu Academy of Arts Friday. Stamp, a real-life nurse and award-winning actress, also distributed souvenir barf bags for the benefit of filmgoers unprepared for the lengthy, crudely simulated scenes of cannibalism, brutal killings and genital mutilation.

"PUBLIC ACCESS" PARTY: Joey Caldarone, left, Su Yin, Sondra Barker, Sam Polson and Michael Ng were among the first to arrive at the post-screening party for "public access: EPISODE 04 of 05" at the Hawaii Prince Hotel. Desi Nishimoto and Nancy Kaneshiro did a superb job of turning the ballroom into a haunted mansion with bloody hand prints, murder weapons, skull candles, great party souvenirs and a heavy pupu buffet garnished with fake body parts.

THEY SURVIVED, WE THINK: "public access: EPISODE 04 of 05" cast members Hera, left, Robert Franklin, Shawna Washabaugh and Drew Synnestvedt, all play characters who appear to survive the rambling gore-fest. They had a good time at the party, even though Hera, who plays a sexually aggressive actress in the movie, had to leave the hotel to enjoy a legal cigarette.

CHILLIN' BY THE CHAIN SAW: Roger Wilco and Sloane Kini also stopped by the post-screening party. The shiny object behind them -- an ice sculpture of a chain saw -- was a decor item ordered by producer/director Lon Takaguchi.
