In a game that featured eight personal-foul penalties, a fight between both teams broke out at the end of the game, spilling into the crowd and all the way to the parking lot.
Parents and coaches tried to get in the way of the two teams, but individual fights around the stadium and in the parking lot marred what was a physical game from the opening.
The Surfriders (4-4-1) broke out to a 6-0 lead on their opening possession of the game as Ryan Rodrigues recovered teammate Kekoa Sua's fumble and rumbled into the end zone from 14 yards out.
Both teams then took turns struggling on offense as a muddy field and penalties hampered both teams throughout the game.
The Surfriders committed five personal-foul penalties in the first half, including one near the end of the first quarter that gave the Golden Hawks (3-6) the ball at the Kailua 15-yard line.
Nanakuli was able to take advantage of the good field position to score their only touchdown of the half as Jaycee Alapai took a quarterback sneak up the middle for a 3-yard touchdown run.
The teams traded touchdowns in the third quarter as Kailua senior captain Damien Torres, who was seen after the game trying to calm down his teammates, took a screen pass 88 yards for a touchdown to make it 12-6. But the Golden Hawks came right back to tie the score on a 1-yard sneak by Alapai.
The Surfriders took the lead for good with a safety and sealed the win as Nicholas Tepea recovered a fumbled punt with 2 minutes left. The Surfriders managed to run out the clock before the two teams began brawling on the field.
Neither coach was available for comment after the game.
