The $5 million mayor's race

Here's how much money Honolulu's two mayoral candidates have raised and spent in the period after the Sept. 18 election, through Monday.

DUKE BAINUM
Collected: $435,493
Spent: $386,936
Deficit: $2,260,868
Cash on hand: $48,798
Total raised: $3,581,613
Loans: $2,308,863
Total spending: $3,539,799

MUFI HANNEMANN
Collected: $380,967
Spent: $265,857
Surplus: $72,671
Cash on hand: $147,671
Total raised: $1,972,821
Loans: $165,284
Total spending: $1,854,083

Mufi Hannemann's campaign has spent about $1.85 million so far while Duke Bainum paid out almost $3.54 million.

The reports also show that Hannemann and Bainum continue to loan their campaigns money, although Hannemann repaid $90,283 loaned to his campaign during the previous reporting period.

Bainum loaned his campaign an additional $320,000 during the last month for a total of $2.3 million in loans.

The current report, due yesterday, covers the period from the day after the Sept. 18 special election through Oct. 18.

Hannemann reported receipts of $380,966, which includes $305,000 in contributions and a $75,000 loan in the last month.

Hannemann campaign spokeswoman Elisa Yadao said the $75,000 loan came from an equity line of credit taken out on the home owned by Hannemann and his wife, Gail.

"It shows the importance that they've given and the commitment that they have to this race," Yadao said.

She said the Hannemanns' fund-raiser held Oct. 14 was the most successful $25-per-person event the campaign has organized. Hannemann had previously said the fund-raiser brought in more than $100,000.

"We continue to receive contributions," Yadao said. "It's an indication of support and it's continuing to grow."

Hannemann spent less than Bainum during the month after the Sept. 18 election, reporting $265,857 in expenditures. Bainum spent more than $386,000.

"We are obviously going to work as hard as we can with the limited funds that we have right now and with the organization, energy and commitment of the people we have. Hopefully that will do it," Yadao said.

Hannemann still had about $147,671 in cash going into the final two weeks of the campaign, while Bainum had a cash balance of $48,798.

Bainum has received about $111,000 in contributions. His mother, brother and other relatives were among the donors.

Bainum's campaign had no comment on his spending report.
