Hawaii Red Cross is seeking instructors

The American Red Cross-Hawaii chapter is looking for individuals who are interested in becoming instructors to provide lifesaving training to isle residents.

Those interested must have current instructor authorization and some background in training or experience in giving presentations to a group of at least 10 people.

Those interested can call Josh at 739-8121. Residents on the neighbor islands can call their county offices at the following numbers:

1 victim of apparent arson is identified

The Honolulu Medical Examiner's Office has identified one of the victims in an Ewa house fire Tuesday as 56-year-old Brenda Mathias.

The Medical Examiner's Office has not released the identity of the second victim of the fire, but neighbors and relatives believe the victim to be 55-year-old Lino T. Vaivao, Mathias' boyfriend.

Causes of the deaths have not been determined, but fire investigators said the blaze appears to have been intentionally set.

Hauula assault suspect sought by authorities

Police are looking for a 21-year-old man who allegedly assaulted another man in Hauula Wednesday.

Police said the victim, 43, of Hauula, got into an argument with some people at Hauula Beach Park at about 6 p.m.

One of the suspectÕs friends left but later returned with the suspect who attacked the victim, police said.

Police said he suffered from multiple lacerations to his face and was treated and released at Castle Medical Center.

Police said the suspect has a history of violence.

Police arrest wounded auto-theft suspect

Police arrested an auto theft suspect Wednesday who had been shot by an officer as he tried to evade capture in Pearl City last week.

Thomas Wesley Greene, 18, of a Hamau Street address in Waipahu was shot in the stomach by a police officer on Oct. 13 after he allegedly rammed into at least three vehicles and injured three police officers who had surrounded the 1994 Honda Civic Coupe he was driving.

Greene was treated at the QueenÕs Medical Center and released Wednesday. Police previously charged the passenger in the car with Greene that day, Randy Garcia, 24, with possession of drug paraphernalia and third-degree promotion of dangerous drugs.

Garcia is GreeneÕs half brother.

Greene faces multiple charges including seven counts of first-degree attempted murder, first-degree criminal property damage, auto theft, third-degree promotion of a dangerous drug, possession of drug paraphernalia and driving without a license.

Police charge suspect in Wahiawa burglary

Honolulu police charged a man with stealing jewelry and computers several months ago during a Wahiawa burglary.

The robbery took place sometime between June 2 and 3. However, police only recently arrested someone whose fingerprints matched those found on some jalousies near the burglary's point of entry.

The suspect in the case was charged with second-degree burglary and is being held in lieu of $50,000 bail.
