Girl power rocks at
benefit concert
downtown
GiRL FeST Hawaii is throwing what's being billed as "a smart party multimedia benefit concert" tomorrow night in conjunction with the film festival, "MC Squared," featuring the return of Medusa and her Feline Science crew.
The hip-hop artist received a Grammy Award with her collaboration with Ozomatli (who will be in concert here themselves next week Saturday), and has shared the stage with the likes of KRS-ONE, George Clinton, Erykah Badu, Dilated Peoples and Me'shell N'degeocello.
Also on the bill will be the local collective the X-Factor, with Rebel Girl, DJ Primmitiv and Selah, who won a Nuyorican Poetry Slam in New York City last month. The bill includes DJ DMuthaFUNK'inD, this year's HawaiiSlam poetry team, a dance performance, and a short festival film showcase.
It all happens, starting at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow, at the Studio 1 Art Gallery downtown. It's an all ages event, with a full bar for those 21 and over, with tickets going for $10 presale ($7 for students with valid ID) and $12 at the door.
Tickets are now available at the gallery at 1 N. King St., or call 599-3931 for info.
