A number of upcoming charity events allow you to treat yourself well while serving a good cause:
Duty to be decadent
Spend the rest of the year being a responsible professional -- Oct. 21 is dedicated to decadence. The YWCA's Downtown Decadence 2004 is designed as an evening of pampering.
The event, from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Laniakea Courtyard of the downtown YWCA, will include champagne and martini bars, appetizers from the in-house restaurant, Cafe Laniakea and a silent auction of desserts donated by local celebrities.
Furthering the pampering, there will be mini-manicures, massages, facials, and color consultations.
Tickets are $50, to benefit the YWCA's economic self-sufficiency and leadership initiatives. Call 538-7061, ext. 234.
Wines for charity
A Wine-Tasting Benefit: The Rotary Club of Windward Oahu hosts its 51st annual wine tasting and silent auction, 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Mid-Pacific Country Club in Kailua. In keeping with the theme, 51 wines will be served, each with a matching cheese, and tickets are $51, to benefit Rotary International's Polio-Plus Campaign. For another $20, taste select wines from private cellars. Call 265-6803.
Savor the Wine: The Arthritis Foundation hosts a tasting of wines, cognac and specialty European beers, 4 to 7 p.m. Oct. 23 at Matters of Taste in the Gentry Pacific Center. Tickets are $75 and include food and entertainment. Call 596-2900.
