KS-Maui enters
poll at No. 9

Fans of Kamehameha Schools have three reasons to cheer once they see today's Star-Bulletin girls volleyball Top 10.

Kamehameha-Maui joined its sister teams from Kapalama and the Big Island in the poll. Maui's Warriors debut at No. 9, sharing the spot with Kamehameha-Hawaii, which entered the Top 10 last week.

Both Neighbor Island squads lead their respective leagues.

Kamehameha's Oahu team, which improved to 8-0 with wins over University and Maryknoll, held fast at No. 3 behind top-ranked Punahou and No. 2 Iolani. Punahou overcame a tremendous opening set by Iolani to win in three at the Raiders' gym before a sellout crowd of 1,200 on Saturday. The Buffanblu, who improved to 8-0 in Interscholastic League of Honolulu play, collected all 16 first-place votes.

Kahuku stayed at No. 4 after defeating Farrington and Roosevelt.

Hawaii Baptist remained at No. 5 after sweeping St. Andrew's Priory and University. Oddly enough, the Golden Eagles lost some points from the panel of coaches and media.

Kalani's win streak is up to four following wins over McKinley and Castle. The defending Oahu Interscholastic Association champion is now 6-2.

Aiea moved up one notch to No. 7 and will host one of the league's surprise teams, Waipahu, tomorrow.

In the boys balloting, Punahou rallied past Iolani 24-26, 25-19, 25-22 on Saturday to retain first place in the ILH race. The Buffanblu (7-0) garnered all 12 first-place votes to remain at No. 1.

Hana (6-0), front runner in the Maui Interscholastic League, made its debut at No. 10. The Dragons replaced Maryknoll.
