Local filmmakers get shot

Co-founder Jeff Katts said that, along with the "wide variety of film shorts, we have more college fare and animation. One is a musical, which is kind of cute, called 'I'm Coming Out of My Shell.' The variation of the level and types of animation is more obvious this year."

Besides "Amasian," the already well-publicized superhero spoof starring local comic Paul Ogata, Katts said another showcase standout, but on the other side of the spectrum, "is a six-minute piece titled 'Micah Cole.' It's an emotional standout, a documentary about a couple taking care of their premature baby. The way it was put together is very heartfelt."

University of Hawaii student filmmaker Michael Ogasawara is back again this year with two of his own shorts. "The boy's talented ... his technique in telling a story and conveying emotions is very simple. There is a cohesiveness to his work."
