Breast cancer
foundation, Ka Pa Ola
get help from Pier 1
PIER 1's new Pearl Highlands Center store will start selling the 2004 edition of a special fund-raising candle Oct. 15 and will donate 25 percent of the proceeds to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
The scented candles will be in a pink mosaic urn-shaped container and will come with a pink ribbon pin for $14.
The first allocation of candles sold out within a week at Pier 1's Ward store, generating more than $1,100 in sales.
A new shipment has arrived and will be sold at both stores. Meanwhile, the Pearl Highlands store is set to have its grand opening Oct. 16.
In advance of the opening, Pier 1 also has jumped on the extreme makeover bandwagon to support a lesser-known cause.
California-based Pier 1 designer Patti Riordan headed a team that has repainted and redecorated a common room at Ka Pa Ola, a community-based residence for adolescent girls run by the nonprofit Child and Family Service.
The room, festooned with new furniture and accessories, will be unveiled today.
