Hittle earns WAC honors

Freshman Tara Hittle was named Western Athletic Conference volleyball player of the week yesterday after leading the Rainbow Wahine to victories over Fresno State and Nevada.

Hittle finished the road trip with 41 kills and a .585 hitting percentage as the Wahine extended their WAC winning streak to 80 matches and improved to fourth in the AVCA Coaches poll released yesterday. The Rainbow Wahine passed Penn State and Florida.

Uecker wins defensive player honors

Jessica Uecker has been named the Western Athletic Conference defensive player of the week for leading Hawaii's soccer team to shutout victories over Rice and Tulsa.

The senior center back from Rapid City, S.D., quarterbacked a defense that limited the two league opponents to a combined six shots on goal. She also assisted on the first goal against Tulsa.

"I'm excited, kind of shocked," Uecker said. "It just sets the bar a little higher and I'll have to keep playing at that level."

Wahine golf in 15th

Dale Gammie is tied for fourth individually after shooting 146 in the first two rounds of the Price's Give Em Five Intercollegiate yesterday in Las Cruces, N.M., as the Wahine sit in 15th place overall at .

After shooting an opening-round 77, Sara Odelius was forced to withdraw from the second round. Kari Sur is tied for 69th with a 161, while Megan Stoddart is tied for 80th with a 165 and Xyra Suyetsugu is tied for 87th at 167.

Texas Tech leads the tournament at 592 while Arizona State sits in second.

Karleusa earns PacWest honors

Hawaii Pacific's Nadica Karleusa's career-high 17-kill performance against Western New Mexico last week was enough to be named PacWest player of the week.

Karleusha is ninth in the conference in hitting percentage and kills per game, and is fifth in blocks per game at 0.90. This is the second time Karleusa has won the award.
