Hawaii is 5-0-1 since losing to Duke on Sept. 10. The Rainbow Wahine (8-2-1 overall) have shut out four consecutive opponents and allowed just one goal in the last six matches.
All Hawaii coach Pinsoom Tenzing knows about Tulsa is that the Golden Hurricane have a new coach and the record (3-6-2) isn't as good as Rice's.
Is Tenzing worried about his players not being ready for the Golden Hurricane after the excellent showing and victory against a very talented Rice team Friday?
"We warn the players about having a letdown every game," Tenzing said.
Senior defender Krystalynn Ontai agrees.
"There is no way. This is a team that has learned our lesson," Ontai said. "We don't take anyone lightly. This team is too good to have a mental breakdown."
"We know they will be tough," added junior defender Seline Williams. "We have to keep getting those head balls, have more control of the ball in the midfield and connect with our forwards."
The Golden Hurricane, opening their WAC season here, nearly arrived in Honolulu with a three-match winning streak.
However, with 15 seconds left in regulation against Drury last Tuesday, a Tulsa defender, attempting to clear the ball, deflected it backward across the goal line. The own goal created a 1-1 tie. Neither team could score in overtime.
The Golden Hurricane have lost just once in the last five matches after starting the season with five defeats in the first six outings. The upswing has come from an improved offense that has produced 12 goals in the last five matches.
Sophomore Katie Ward is the top scorer with three goals and two assists.
After tonight's match, Hawaii travels to Texas to take on Southern Methodist on Friday and Texas-El Paso on Sunday.
