On Friday, Oceanic Time Warner Cable launched its Digital Channel 120, the Pentagon Channel -- the Pentagon's major news outlet -- which will include reports on the activities of Hawaii's military.

Air Force Tech. Sgt. Russell Barfield, the one-man Hawaii bureau chief for the American Forces Network, covers many of the activities of the Pacific Command and provides stories for the "Pacific Report" -- a daily half-hour news segment broadcast in Yokota, Japan.

In the past, Barfield has traveled to the Philippines in July to report on the visit of Adm. Thomas Fargo, Pacific forces commander, to troops training the Filipino military.

In February, he covered the efforts of the Joint POW/MIA Accounting Command from Hickam Air Force Base in Palau to recover the remains of a missing World War II soldier.

Besides military news, the Pentagon Channel covers Department of Defense news briefings and interviews with top Pentagon officials.

There is a one-minute news update airing at the top of each hour. In addition, there are daily 60-second news updates five times a day and a two-minute update of worldwide Navy and Marine Corps news each day, Monday through Friday.

The Pentagon Channel is available on Digital Channel 120 24 hours a day, seven days a week to all of Oceanic's Hawaii digital subscribers.

Six B-52 bombers and 250 airmen from the 20th Expeditionary Bomb Squadron, 2nd Bomb Wing, at Barksdale Air Force Base, La., have started a 120-day Air and Space Expeditionary Force rotation at Andersen Air Force Base in Guam. It is the third of four existing B-52 bomber squadrons in the Air Force to deploy to Guam as part of continuous bomber rotations. The Air Force said the unit replaced the 96th Expeditionary Bomb Squadron -- also part of the 2nd Bomb Wing -- who arrived at Andersen on May 25 for a 90-day rotation.

The Navy recently decided to station three nuclear-powered attack submarines in Guam.
