Bounty of beadsThousands of beads, whether made of glass, bone, plastic or semiprecious stone will be available tomorrow through Sunday as "The Bead Show" takes place at the Ward Warehouse second-floor conference rooms.Beads will be sold individually or by the strand. Also available will be finished jewelry, buttons and stringing supplies. Event hours are noon to 8 p.m. tomorrow, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. Admission is free.
Hula pics grace shirtsKim Taylor Reece's hula kahiko photography has sparked interest in the magic and power of this dance around the world, and the images need not be confined to four walls anymore.Celebrating Reece's 25th anniversary of working with hula kahiko, images from his work now grace a collection of silk shirts, T-shirts and caps available at Hilo Hattie stores. Chun designs shownHui Makaala's 35th annual Fashion Show will take place Oct. 17 at the Waikiki Sheraton Hotel, with another collection by Jeanie Chun.Chun, president of GSL Enterprises, is head designer and buyer for three Jacqueline de Michel boutiques in Waikiki's Sheraton hotels. She also maintains her Private Designer Salon featuring special-occasion dressing. The program will be divided into three segments: Jean Michel USA: Classic designer sportswear for businesswomen. Geiger Austria Collections: 2005 Spring Summer Collection of European designer wear. The Tango: International ballroom dancing attire for the dance floor or special occasions. The event opens with boutique sales and a silent auction at 9 a.m., followed by lunch, entertainment and door prizes at noon. The show begins at 1 p.m. There will also be a trunk show, and a grand prize of a handmade necklace of semiprecious gems from Kensei Takeda of Chez Kensei. Tickets are $50, available by calling 833-6523. Proceeds will benefit Hui Makaala's 58-year-old scholarship program.
