Scott and Davis win Best of the Beach

Punahou graduate Sean Scott won top honors at the AVP Nissan Series Best of the Beach volleyball tournament at Queen's Beach yesterday.

Scott teamed with fellow Buffanblu graduate Mike Lambert to defeat Jake Gibb and Todd Rogers 15-21, 22-20, 15-9 in the finals.

On the women's side, Annett Davis of Valencia, Calif. won the title after teaming with Olympic gold medalist Misty May to defeat Kerri Walsh and Elaine Youngs 21-12, 15-21, 15-6.

Kamehameha grabs first and third place

The Kamehameha girls junior varsity cross country team took first place in the 23rd annual Westmoor High School Invitational yesterday, while the varsity team took third in Daly City, Calif.

It was the third straight first-place finish for the junior varsity team. The varsity squad had won its division the past two years.

Rainbows bounce back at UNLV

The Rainbow Wahine tennis team picked up three wins yesterday on the second day of the UNLV Fall Invitational.

Senior Lauren Fitzgerald defeated Amanda Mang of LSU, 6-4, 2-6, 6-1. Fitzgerald then teamed with Paige Mainor to beat Minnesota's Jane Anderson and Ida Malmberg, 8-2 in doubles.

Jones, staff to discuss games

University of Hawaii football head coach June Jones and members of his coaching staff will discuss film analysis of the Warriors' game against Rice at tomorrow's Na Koa Football Club luncheon.

Jones and his staff will also provide a preview of Hawaii's upcoming game against Tulsa. The luncheon starts at 11:30 a.m. at the Stan Sheriff Center. Cost is $13 for Na Koa members, and $15 for guests.

Watson, Minn to speak at Quarterback Club

Pearl City football head coach Watson Tanuvasa, musician Audy Kimura and retired swimming coach Al Minn will be guest speakers at the Honolulu Quarterback Club tomorrow.

The weekly luncheon starts at 11:30 a.m., with the program beginning at noon at the Pagoda Ballroom. The public is invited.

Smith breaks school record

Brigham Young-Hawaii corss country runner Chelsea Smith broke her own school record yesterday, beating the field through 5 kilometers in 17 minutes, 22 seconds in Laie yesterday.

The Seasiders won the women's team competition by 21 points over second place UH-Hilo. BYUH won the men's race as well.
