A 38-year-old man was charged yesterday with second-degree murder for the fatal assault of a Nuuanu convenience store owner.
A witness picked William K. Albinio out of a lineup, police said. Bail was set at $75,000.
Police said Albinio struck 58-year-old Edwin Medeiros about 7 p.m. Sunday at Nuuanu Liquor & Sundries on Nuuanu Avenue.
Medeiros was trying to get him out of the liquor store that Medeiros' wife owns after Albinio became disorderly while trying to buy beer, police said.
Acting on a tip, police arrested Albinio on Friday at Honolulu District Court, where he was set to appear for a harassment case.
Medeiros had been in critical condition at the Queen's Medical Center after the attack, but was taken off life support about 4:30 p.m. Friday.
Hawaii Criminal Justice Data Center figures show Albinio has been convicted of 23 misdemeanors since August 1989.
