‘A Night in Assisi’ fund-raiser


St. Francis School celebrates its 80th anniversary with "A Night in Assisi" fund-raising gala 6 to 10 p.m. Saturday at the Hilton's Coral Ballroom. The ballroom will be decorated in Italian style and guests will be served an Italian dinner. Na Leo Pilimehana and the Honolulu Brass Quintet will perform. Linda Coble is emcee. BISHOP Museum hosts its first-ever fashion show fund-raiser luncheon, "Creme de la Creme" Sunday in the Sheraton Waikiki Hawaii Ballroom. The show features designs of Jeanie Chun in three theatrical segments: Une Nuit Elegance (sophisticated eveningwear), Art to Wear (hand-painted special occasion attire) and Victorian Collaboration (elegant lace muumuu). Local celebrity models will display the fashions. It will benefit the museum's educational programs. Lunch, a vendor boutique and prizes are included. Hawaiian Airlines ohana getting together

Koa'e Kea gals, former Hawaiian Airlines flight attendants, will be holding another of their big blasts, this one called "Jazz It Up," Nov. 6 at the Ala Moana Hotel. They want past and present Hawaiian employees to attend. Entertainment will include jazz singer Napua Davoy, the harmony of Imaikalani Young's Imai & Friends and Marshall Kaniho's Trio. The late Cornelius "Corny" Downes must be beaming down from his cloud. His son Lawrence is now on the editorial board of the New York Times, writing editorials. A Damien High School graduate, he has been with the Times for 10 years. He had a reunion recently with his sister Mary, national editor of the Seattle Post Intelligencer, when she attended the GOP convention in Manhattan. The clan also includes Patrick, editor of the Hawaii Catholic Herald, and Steven, who works for another Honolulu daily. They all make their mother, Patsy Downes of Kailua, proud ... No Wood Craft Saturday as I will be on vacation until Monday ...
