Hawaiian Air bidder gets $60M commitment

Hawaiian Investment Partners Group LLC, part of a group that filed a reorganization plan for bankrupt Hawaiian Airlines, said yesterday it has received a commitment from Las Vegas commercial lender USA Capital to infuse $60 million into the carrier as part of an overall $270 million proposal.

The reorganization plan that the group filed last week also pays creditors 100 percent in cash within two years of taking ownership, provides local representation on the board, continues honoring Hawaiian Airlines compensation programs and other agreements, and continues paying all retiree benefits.

Hawaiian Investment Partners, which is made up of investors and venture capitalists, filed its plan jointly with Hawaiian Airlines pilot Robert Konop and the Hawaiian Reorganization Committee, which consists of some airline employees and small creditors.

Oakland Raiders fly Hawaiian Air

The Oakland Raiders pro football team has picked Hawaiian Airlines as its official charter airline for the fifth year in a row, saying it favors the carrier's hospitality and attention to detail.

Hawaiian will provide air service for players, coaches, trainers and team officials with its Boeing 767-300ER aircraft. The airline noted that it does not serve Oakland, Calif. Its local competitor, Aloha Airlines, began flying between Oakland and Hawaii in 2000.

Convention center to host meeting

The Hawaii Convention Center will serve as the site of the seventh annual Pacific Rim Incentives & Meetings Exchange, PRIME 2004, to be held today through Monday.

The event is geared toward Pacific Rim meeting professionals and suppliers, bringing planners from North America to meet with suppliers from Hawaii and Asia-Pacific. For more information, visit www.prime-aloha.com.

Association starts message board

The Activities & Attractions Association of Hawaii and the state Department of Land and Natural Resources have started an online message board for discussion about the activities industry.

The message board, at forums.a3h.orgforums.a3h.org on the Web, is meant to give the association's members an easy way to provide input on issues, as well as give the state insight on the industry. The site is open to the public, though registration is required to post messages.
