House fire in Keaau causes no injuries

Fire heavily damaged a home yesterday in Keaau, south of Hilo on the Big Island.

Firefighters responded to the fire at 16-229-B Shipman Road at about 3:07 a.m. The fire was extinguished at 5:10 a.m. There were no injuries, said a fire official.

Damage was estimated at $250,000. The cause of the fire was under investigation.

Girls allege sex assault during 6-year period

Police arrested a 56-year-old Kalihi man Saturday for allegedly sexually assaulting two girls under the age of 15.

The victims, ages 14 and 10, told police that they were sexually assaulted by the suspect during a six-year period from 1997 to 2003. The man was arrested on suspicion of third-degree sexual assault and then released pending investigation.

WAIKIKI
3 teens held in alleged knife robbery at beach

Police arrested three teenagers Saturday after they allegedly assaulted a man at a Waikiki beach.

Police said a 21-year-old man and his friends were at the beach about 12:21 a.m. when a group of six to seven male suspects started to talk to them.

The victim and some of his friends were then punched and kicked by the suspects, ages 15, 17 and 18, police said. One of the suspects brandished a knife, took the victim's wallet and fled, police said.

Police located three of the suspects nearby and arrested them on suspicion of first-degree robbery.

CENTRAL OAHU
Man, 37, charged after girls claim sex assault

Police charged a 37-year-old Wahiawa man Friday for allegedly sexually assaulting two girls, both 10 years old.

Police said Dennis Academia sexually assaulted the girls on Aug. 24 and 25 and then physically assaulted them after they told him they were going to call the police.

Academia was charged with two counts of third-degree sex assault. Bail was set at $22,000.

LEEWARD OAHU
Ewa Beach man faces charges in threat case

Police have charged a 38-year-old Ewa Beach man for allegedly threatening and shooting at another man.

Police said William H.W. Caminos threatened the victim, 31, of Pearl City, with a handgun. Police said when the male victim fled in his vehicle, the suspect gave chase and fired a shot but missed.

On Thursday, Caminos learned that he was wanted and turned himself in. He was charged the following day for first-degree terroristic threatening. His bail was set at $20,000.
