Kai named player of the weekNatasha Kai was named the Western Athletic Conference women's soccer offensive player of the week yesterday after scoring two game-winning goals on the Hawaii Rainbow Wahine road trip last weekend.Kai scored the golden goal 53 seconds into the first overtime period against UC Santa Barbara Sept. 1, then won the match against Loyola Marymount Sunday with a goal 2:17 into the first extra period. The junior striker and two-time WAC Player of the Year, also scored the first goal against Southern California Sept. 3 and assisted on the first goal against LMU. It is the seventh time Kai has earned this honor. The coaches preseason pick for WAC Player of the Years honors this season and on the Hermann Award watch list, Kai increased her school career records for goals (48), game-winning goals (14) and passed the century mark for points (106), putting her in the top five in the WAC in that category. Also yesterday. Hawaii was No. 12 in the West Region in the weekly rankings by Soccer Buzz. This is the first time the Wahine have been ranked since they started the 1998 season with six consecutive victories.
