Lambert, Wong teams advance

Mike Lambert (Punahou, Stanford) and John Hayden, the No. 8 seeds, won their first two matches in the AVP Nissan Series Chicago Open yesterday.

They beat qualifiers Jeff Minc and Aaron Wachtfoge in the first round 21-15, 21-12, then stopped Dax Holdren and Stein Metzger (Punahou, UCLA), 18-21, 24-22, 17-15 in the second round.

Metzger and Holdren, seeded ninth, won their first-round match over qualifiers John Moran and Brian Soldano 21-18, 21-17.

Wong (Punahou, UCLA) and Eric Fonoimoana, seeded fourth, beat qualifiers Ryan Cronin and Andrew Vasquez 21-8, 21-14 in the opening round and defeated Adam Roberts and Chad Turner 21-19, 21-16 in the second round.

In the women's division, the 15th-seeded team of Tanya Fuamatu (University, Hawaii-Hilo) and Heidi Ilustre (Hawaii) beat Saralyn Smith and Anne Windes 24-22, 21-19 in the first round, but lost to Olympic gold medal winners and No. 2 seeds Misty May and Kerri Walsh in the second round 21-16, 21-12.

New site for June Jones Show

The June Jones Show will be taped at Round Table Pizza at the Ohana East Hotel in Waikiki.

This week's taping, open to the public, is tomorrow at noon. The show, co-hosted by Russell Shimooka, will air tomorrow at 7:30 and 10:30 p.m.

The show reviews the previous day's game, and includes features such as "A Warrior to Remember" and "Off The Field."

Antelopes sweep Seasiders

Erin Gudmundson had 18 kills to lead Nebraska-Kearney to a 30-26, 30-26, 30-25 victory over Brigham Young-Hawaii yesterday in the Seasider Classic at the Cannon Activities Center.

Yu Chuan Weng had 14 kills and Lilly Tufuga 11 for BYUH.

Rainbow Wahine softball schedule

Hawaii head coach Bob Coolen has released the Rainbow Wahine 2005 schedule.

UH opens with the Hawaii Paradise Classic, with Oregon, Washington, Jacksonville and Indiana-Purdue-Fort Wayne on Feb. 3-6.

The Wahine will participate in the UNLV Rebel Classic on Feb. 11-13, play at Arizona Feb. 16, then play in the Arizona Worth Tournament on Feb. 18-20.

UH begins Western Athletic Conference play against Fresno State on April 1.

Polo at Waimanalo tomorrow

The Honolulu Polo Club's weekly match at the Waimanalo Polo Grounds starts at 2:30 p.m. tomorrow. The gates open at 1 p.m.

The general admission is $3, with children under 12 free. Members of the military are admitted free with a valid I.D.
