Broadway vet Jim
Hutchison has a full
plate this month

BIG MONTH for Jim Hutchison, the Broadway veteran who's known for being a director, choreographer, singer, dancer and actor. His "My Way" production opened this week at Manoa Valley Theatre. Then Sept. 12, 13, and 14, he'll be at Richardson Theatre auditioning potential cast members for "The King and I," which Army Community Theatre presents in November. He's again directing and choreographing the show for Ballet Hawaii's Black & White Ball, themed "The Big Easy," Sept. 25 at the Hilton. He has solid performers to work with -- James Barbour from the recent Broadway hit "Assassins," Stan Chandler from "Cabaret," Kirsten Benton Chandler from "Ragtime," Eileen Barnett from "Nine" and Matthew Pedersen, from "A Chorus Line" and "Miss Saigon." John Bryan, a singer-dancer, is manager ...

Aya will attract viewers ...

Among friends she visited here was Lisa Josephsohn, godmother of Jeanne's son, Michael, 13. Lisa helped deliver Michael at Queen's. They dined at Kobe Steakhouse with Charlie Landrum, who has moved back to town after 10 years on the mainland ...

The A&E show starring bounty hunter Dog Chapman and his family -- Caucasians trying to speak pidgin and grabbing mostly brown-skinned locals for a bounty and Dog pointing out the errors of their ways -- is not likely to play well to those of Polynesian ancestry ...

It's great that Bethany Hamilton's courageous story will be made into a big-screen movie. The Kauai teen's return to surfing competition after losing an arm to a shark is a sensational, heart-warming story ...
