Advocate urges Israeli-
Palestinian peace
An Israel-born advocate for peace between Israelis and Palestinians will speak in Honolulu next week.
Avi Zer-Aviv will discuss "Healing Israel/Palestine: The Politics of Peace, Justice and Reconciliation" at a Tuesday forum at Church of the Crossroads. The 6 p.m. program sponsored by Friends of Sabeel is open to the public.
"Occupied Palestine: Daily Life in Balata Refugee Camp" will be his topic in a free public talk at 7 p.m. Friday at Pacific Justice & Reconciliation Center, 19 N. Pauahi St.
He will appear on KTUH 90.3 FM in a discussion with University of Hawaii professor Ibrahim Aoude from 8 to 9 a.m. next Saturday.
Zer-Aviv grew up in Canada and is active in several Palestinian peace and justice organizations, including TIKKUN Community in Toronto and Seeds of Peace International Camp. He worked in Jerusalem in 2003 as coordinator of the Israeli Committee Against House Demolitions. He is majoring in Arab-Jewish relations at the University of Waterloo in Ontario, Canada.
