of wins for Idaho State

Sophomore Jen Loo had an assist in each game last weekend as the Idaho State women's soccer team opened its season with victories over Brigham Young, 3-1, and Southern Utah, 2-1.

>> Western New Mexico

Sophomore Liz Narkon (Saint Francis '02 of Hawaii Kai) is clearly Western New Mexico's go-to hitter.

In a season-opening tournament in Texas last weekend, Narkon got 173 swings in four matches -- 46 more than anyone else on the team -- and averaged 3.62 kills per game as Western won three of four.

Narkon, who is 6-foot-1, had 21 kills in a five-game victory over Abilene Christian and also contributed defensively with 18 digs in another five-game match and nine blocks in 16 games.

Sophomore Meghan Watson (Kalaheo '03) shared the team lead in digs with 3.06 per game, including match totals of 14, 13 and 13.

Sophomore Melanie Tang (Maryknoll '02) played defensive specialist in nearly every game.

Western New Mexico comes to Hawaii for PacWest Conference matches against UH-Hilo on Sept. 27, Chaminade on Sept. 29, Hawaii Pacific on Oct. 1 and BYUH on Oct. 2.

>> Regis (Colorado)

Senior Holly Yamada (Farrington '01) amassed 58 kills and 56 digs in four matches last weekend and was named to the all-tournament team at the Rockhurst Classic in Kansas City.

Yamada, who was chosen on the coaches' preseason All-Rocky Mountain Conference team, averaged 3.41 kills and 3.29 digs per game, just under her 3.83 kills and 3.39 digs per game over the past two seasons.
