Small local graphic
design company wins
big accolades
A small Honolulu-based graphic design and advertising shop has won four awards from Graphic Design USA, a 40-year-old national trade publication.
"I submitted a couple pieces and won the awards," said John Wingard, owner of John Wingard Design.
He received two awards for his own company's identity design and collateral materials. Two of his entries in the logo-design category also won, for Waidroka Estates and Maui Bay, real estate developments in Fiji.
Wingard was notified of the awards last week, but there was no glitzy ceremony. The publication will send out certificates and plaques, and publish the winning awards.
Taveuni Development Co., developer of the two Fiji projects, has a sales office in Hawaii and a Web site at fijirealestate.net.
"They're very excited about the whole thing," Wingard said.
Wingard's local clients include Ala Moana Center, the state Department of Agriculture and Town & Country Surf.
Feed the need for speed
For speed freaks and the people who love them, a legal racing event on Labor Day will be staged by the Hawaii chapter of the Sports Car Club of America."Keep the Kids on Track," at Hawaii Raceway Park from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., is also a fund-raiser for the Hawaii Red Cross and Hawaii Family Support Institute.
First Insurance Company of Hawaii Ltd. and I Spy Customs are co-sponsoring the event and its intent, to keep racers off the freeway and other public roads. I Spy, which customizes vehicles from stem to stern, will display some customers' cars, said manager Mike Hunter.
The Honolulu Star-Bulletin also is a sponsor.
