LIHUE >> A Kauai man has been sentenced to 10 years in jail for attacking a tourist with a hammer.
Deputy Public Defender James Itamura said Antonio Manzano Jr. was so drunk he doesn't remember what happened.
He said Manzano drank too much and the alcohol and his medication "made a bad combination."
Circuit Judge Clifford Nakea noted that Manzano had three prior convictions for property damage and terroristic threatening.
Police say Manzano entered the tent of a visiting Alaska couple at Anini Beach Park and struck the 21-year-old man twice on the head with a hammer.
Manzano pleaded guilty on June 28 to first-degree assault, burglary terroristic threatening charges.
