Wal-Mart Stores Inc. has received more than 4,500 applications for the 1,200 jobs at its new Wal-Mart/Sam's Club in urban Honolulu, which is opening soon. Some 700 positions have already been filled. Above, Milanie Cleofas, left, and Yolanda Ignacio filled out applications yesterday.




New Hawaii facts, figures available in state book

The state has released the latest edition of its annual statistical data book and posted it on the Web.

The 36th edition of the State of Hawaii Data Book is only available at www2.hawaii.gov/dbedt/latest. The new 2003 edition has 743 tables, which can be viewed and downloaded.

>> Atlantis Adventures has hired Stephanie Kolp as sales manager. She is responsible for all facets of sales and promotions for Atlantis-Kona. She previously worked as a luxury retirement community facility manager in Washington state.

>> Aston Hotels & Resorts Hawaii has appointed Tulinh Luciano-DeSmith as sales manager of the Aston Waikiki Beach Hotel. She will be responsible for complementing the company's sales team efforts in the domestic U.S. market with a focus on increasing group and leisure business. She previously worked as the Ala Moana Hotel's group sales manager.

>> Sheraton Keauhou Bay Resort & Spa has appointed Ben Takahashi as executive chef. He will be responsible for every aspect of the food operation from menu creation and execution to administration, cost control and product quality for the resort's two restaurants, twice-weekly luau, in-room dining and banquet/catering operation. He most recently served as the Mauna Lani Bay Hotel & Bungalows, Big Island executive sous chef.

PROMOTIONS

>> Bishop Museum has promoted Kathleen Izon to exhibits director. She will be responsible for supporting the Museum's public programs, in-house and traveling exhibitions, and campus beautification projects. She most recently served as a junior designer at the museum.
