Longs offers program for keiki identification

Longs Drug Stores on Oahu are participating in a program to identify children with digital photographs and fingerprints.

Police and law enforcement officials say the identification information could provide vital information if a child is lost or kidnapped.

The program began Saturday at Longs Drugs in Hawaii Kai, Mililani and Kaneohe and will continue the next two Saturdays as follows:

>> Saturday at Longs in Kam Shopping Center, Manoa Shopping Center and Ewa Beach.
>> Aug. 28 at Longs Pearl City, Kailua and Kaimuki.

Parents may take children ages 1 through 16 to any of the stores from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on those dates.

Updated photos are suggested every three years. Each child's fingerprints and color photo will be printed on a special card, free to parents, with some helpful hints for parents about child safety at home and school. Parents are encouraged to put it in a safe place.

The free program is sponsored by the Pearl Harbor Masonic Lodge and Masonic Charities in Hawaii with the support of Longs Drug.
