Actress Doherty belts out
vocals at Karaoke Hut
FORGET ABOUT hitting the club -- when new "North Shore" cast member Shannen Doherty wanted to relax on Friday, she stayed until closing at Karaoke Hut in Kapahulu.
Doherty, who makes her debut on the Fox series Sept. 20, showed up with two friends and was "full-on nice," according to one employee. The only time she got a little salty was when another customer tried to send her a glass of ice water instead of the Grey Goose martinis she drank all night.
And yes, she did grab a microphone, belting out a number of tunes by 50 Cent ...
IT DIDN'T take long for the Stone Groove Family to come up with another Sunday night spot after wrapping up five years at Brew Moon on Aug. 8.
Starting Sept. 12, the local DJ collective will join Matty Boy Hazelgrove's Doorman Productions to present "Club deVille" at the Living Room. The new party is being described as the "Cadillac of clubs" and a "custom-tailored event for those who are over the radio crap."
Too bad we've got to wait a few more weeks for this one to start -- hopefully you got one of the mix CDs that were given away at Brew Moon to help pass the time ...
AFTER TWO years at Cafe Sistina, DJs BassX and Konception have pulled the plug on "Audiolab" ... DJ BillyG wrapped up the final Friday night party at Sansei last weekend. Watch for the restaurant to change names soon, since D.K. Kodama is taking Sansei to Waikiki ... The "Official Afterparty" at the Mercury Lounge is also pau ... And rumor has it that a popular nightspot in town could possibly shut down, since one of its owners wants out in order to start another club at Ala Moana ...
LOCAL ROCK radio station 97.5 KPOI went out with a whimper last weekend, thanks to its new owners. While programming staff were told they would have until Sunday to say goodbye, station bigwigs decided to pull the plug at 6 p.m. on Friday night.
Forget about the fact that the station was at the Blaisdell at the time, promoting their final party before the start of the blink-182 show. As California-based Salem Communications Corp. vice president and general manager T.J. Malievsky gleefully told the Star-Bulletin's Erika Engle, "I am pleased ... to shut (KPOI) down."
After being dissed by management, the party went on as planned on Saturday night at the Wave Waikiki, with former jocks Ken "The Hutch" Hutchinson, "Loud Larry" Lieberman, and Darah "Ah Foon" York all making an appearance. Former staffers Jeff Blazy, Nikki Robinson and Brock Whaley also called in to pay their respects during Double D and Blunt's last morning show on Friday.
Full disclosure -- this columnist used to do the night show on KPOI, until budget cuts cost him the gig last November ...
