[HAWAII'S KITCHEN]

Fresh fish fills
crispy won ton

This dish was prepared by Malina Seaborn of Great and Mighty Greens on "Hawaii's Kitchen" Sunday. The show airs at 5:30 p.m. on KHON/Fox.

Malina's Ahi Won Ton

1 pound ahi or other fresh island fish
1/2 cup goat cheese, cream cheese or vegan substitute
1 tablespoon minced ginger
1 tablespoon minced garlic
2 tablespoons mirin
2 tablespoons oyster sauce
1/2 cup chopped green onion
1/3 minced cilantro, minced
1/2 minced sweet red pepper
Minced fresh or dry chilies, optional
2-1/2 to 4 cups macadamia nut oil
2 packages won ton wrappers

Mix first six ingredients in a food processor and blend to a paste, 1 to 2 minutes. Add green onion, cilantro and pepper and pulse gently (avoid over-blending new ingredients). Add chilies at this point if using.

Heat oil in wok or fryer to 350 degrees.

Spoon fish mixture into center of won ton wrapper. Wet edges of wrapper with water and pinch together to form a triangle. Repeat to use up filling. Place in heated oil and fry until golden brown, 2 to 3 minutes.
