Kaneko finishes third in Florida golf tournamentAyaka Kaneko of Honolulu, took third place at the Optimist International Junior Golf Championships at Beach Gardens, Fla., yesterday.Kaneko shot a 73 in the first round to take an early lead but did not dominate for the next two days, shooting 77 each round. She rounded out the tournament with a 76 and a four-day total of 303. Kaneko is about to start eighth grade at Sacred Hearts Academy in Honolulu. Juliana Beatriz Murcia Ortiz of Bogota, Columbia, shot a 73 on the final round to win the tournament with a 296. Kono ready to defend: Stephanie Kono will defend her title when the Hawaii State Women's Golf Association Stroke Play Championship tees off this week at the Mid-Pacific Country Club. Also entered are Rachel Kyono, who won this event in 2000 and 2002, and Mari Chun, the winner of June's HSWGA Match Play Championship. Play begins at 8:45 a.m. tomorrow and continues through Thursday's final round. Murphy prevails:Skip Murphy shot a two-day total of 155 to win the Championship Flight division of this weekend's 80th Big Island Amateur Golf Tournament. Lance Yamada and Craig Young won the A- and B-flight divisions shooting a 159 and 138, respectively.
