Hawaiian Air tops in filling seats

Hawaiian Airlines filled 88.7 percent of its seats in June, leading the nation for the fifth time in six months.

The bankrupt carrier's load factor increased 6.6 percentage points from June 2003. Revenue passenger miles rose 8.8 percent last month.

Northwest Airlines followed Hawaiian with seats that were 86.4 percent full.

Japan Airlines sues All Nippon

Japan Airlines Corp., Asia's largest carrier, filed a 10 billion yen ($91 million) suit against All Nippon Airways Co., saying the smaller company infringed a patent for an online reservation system for corporate customers.

Japan Airlines International, which operates the carrier's overseas flights, filed the suit with the Tokyo District Court on July 23, spokesman Atsushi Abe said. Japan Air is seeking damages and demanding All Nippon stop using the system.

Japan Air's reservation system enables corporate clients to make Internet reservations and board planes by showing only their credit cards or mileage cards at airports. The service makes boarding quicker for premium business passengers by eliminating the need to issue a ticket.
