[ ISLAND HOPPING ]

Luxe wheels

Whether you want to cruise the isles in style or impress a date, Hertz has a car from its Prestige Collection for you.

Prestige vehicles are in demand across the country, but are most popular in leisure destinations such as Hawaii, Florida, California, Las Vegas, Denver and Phoenix.

Hertz spokeswoman Paula Stifter said, "Not only are people spending money on upscale destinations, but they're looking to rent a car that is on par with the five-star resort or hotel they're staying in."

Some of the rides available locally include Jaguars, Lincolns, Volvos, Land Rovers and Cadillac Escalades. Call 1-800-654-2250 to reserve a vehicle.

Look, no tears

The Maui Onion Eating Contest at 3 p.m. on Aug. 8 is now on the International Federation of Competitive Eating circuit, and Eric "Badlands" Booker will be flying in from New York to challenge local eaters. Call 808-661-4567 for more information.
