Television star sightings
here and there in Honolulu

Six degrees of separation: Aya Sumika, co-star in NBC's police drama "Hawaii" is a frequent isle visitor because her German-Italian father lives on Maui ... Another co-star Eric Balfour, an avid surfer, is buying a home here. Balfour and "North Shore" star Brooke Burns have been hanging out at Ala Moana Center's Mai Tai bar, but not together ... Speaking of "North Shore," Jason Momoa, is engaged to Australian actress Simmone MacKinnon. According to an Australian magazine, the two met on the set of "Baywatch Hawaii" (MacKinnon played Allie Reese, Momoa played Jason Ioane, and trivia buffs may remember Burns played Jessica Owens). Momoa proposed to MacKinnon at the Kahala Mandarin last month. No wedding date has been set. ... Keep your eyes out for Jennifer Love Hewitt, according to this month's In Style magazine, the actress tries to go to Maui three times a year, staying at Sheraton Maui. ...

CONGRATULATIONS TO Donald Gideon Hokulani "Hoku" Eads. The 11-year-old received a proclamation from Hawaii County Mayor Harry Kim earlier this month for his outstanding academic achievements. Hoku, who can speak and write Mandarin, has been auditing college classes since he was 8. But this can't be a surprise to parents Donald and Teri Eads because their other children Michael and Angel, graduated from high school when they were 13 and 12, respectively. ... Props to Gordian Botelho-Torres. He is last month's semi-finalist in the Al Waterson & You Singing Competition. The contest is held every Thursday at Don Ho's Island Grill. The overall winner will receive a recording contract from Four Strings Productions, a trip for two to Las Vegas via Jackie's Travel and an appearance in Don Ho's Holiday Showcase. Last year's winner Christina Youngs is a regular in Ho's Waikiki show. ...

HELP! I'm being arrested next month as part of the Muscular Dystrophy Association fund-raising TELU Lockup "Stars Behind Bars." I need to raise $1,500 to bust out.

"Can you tell me who turned me in?" I asked the MDA volunteer who called.

"No. I'm sorry, they are now part of our Witness Protection program."

Alright, 'fess up. I've accused friends and co-workers of sending me to jail but can't find the culprit. Who's the caring person who wants me to raise $1,500 for MDA? Other caring souls who wish to make a contribution on my behalf -- and that of co-worker Rod Antone, who's also being sent up to jail -- may call me at 529-4326. Hurry!
