Methodists welcome new superintendent
Members of Hawaii's 34 Methodist congregations will celebrate the arrival of the new Hawaii Conference superintendent at a 10 a.m. service next Saturday at First United Methodist Church.
An informal luncheon reception will welcome the Rev. Woong-Min Kim and his wife, Jung-Hae, at the church at 1020 S. Beretania St.
Kim has been senior pastor of the Wiltshire United Methodist Church in Los Angeles for the past three years, and previously was senior pastor at Christ United Methodist Church in Makiki. He was appointed to a six-year term as superintendent by California-Pacific Conference Bishop Mary Ann Swenson. He succeeds the Rev. Barbara Ripple.
The Rev. Eddie Kelemeni was recently named senior pastor of First United Methodist Church, replacing the Rev. Bob Morley.
Other new pastoral assignments include the Rev. Solomone Uluave to associate pastor at Lihue United Church, the Rev. Linita Moa to pastor of Ewa Beach United Methodist Church and the Rev. Sang Ho Yi to pastor at Olive United Methodist Church in Wahiawa.
Isle concert features Christian rappers
Christian rap musicians Johnny Hodges, of Oahu, and Jeremy Korigan, of Colorado, will highlight a concert next Saturday by more than 100 musicians and singers from local churches.
The concert at 4 p.m. at the Kapiolani Community College great lawn will be the finale of the "Youth Quake" crusade presented by Grace Chapel of San Bernardino, Calif.
All events are free and open to the public:
» Thursday, 5 p.m., Kapiolani Park Bandstand: Pastor Via Muasau, of the Samoan Assembly of God, and the Waipahu church's Holy Warriors musicians.
» Friday, 5 p.m., Kapiolani Community College great lawn: The Rev. Tobias Brooknus, of Word of Truth Ministries in Los Angeles, as preacher.
Glory and praise music will be performed by choirs, musicians and dancers of City of Refuge Christian Church, Trinity Missionary Baptist Church, Way of Truth Church, Waipahu Church of Christ and New Life Body of Christ.
