Aloha United Way officials said the group's 211 hot line for nonemergencies saw a 29 percent increase in calls in its second year.
The 211 service is a free 24-hour information and referral hotline that is available statewide.
In its second year, the service answered 60,640 calls for help, according to AUW.
The calls were generally nonemergency questions on bioterrorism, food, shelter, health services, financial assistance and mental health care.
"We know that as 211 becomes more well-known nationwide, it will be as recognized as 911," AUW President Irving Lauber said earlier this week.
The 211 service is available in five states to about 88 million people.
