Work to close
freeway, road lanes

Major road repair projects this week will shut down H-1 Freeway and close lanes on Moanalua Freeway and Fort Weaver Road.

From 10 p.m. Thursday to 4 a.m. Friday, the H-1 Freeway will be closed in both directions between Halawa and Waimalu as the H-1 Waimalu Widening Project continues.

Also, starting tonight from 9 p.m. until 4:30 a.m. through Friday, all eastbound lanes of the Moanalua Freeway will be closed from the Halawa Interchange to Kalihi Street as crews resurface the roadway.

Single-lane closures will take place in the Ewa direction from the Vineyard on-ramp to the Ola Lane overpass, also between 9 p.m. and 4:30 a.m.

In addition, a $6.3 million project to widen Fort Weaver Road to six lanes begins tomorrow. Motorists should expect intermittent lane closures along Fort Weaver Road to allow crews to restripe the thoroughfare and make room for temporary concrete barriers that will separate traffic and the construction zone.

Closures are scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. for the Ewa-bound direction of Fort Weaver Road. For the Honolulu-bound direction, drivers should expect closures on Thursday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Other road construction will close lanes this week near the Makakilo, Palailai, and Kapiolani Boulevard interchanges of the H-1 Freeway; the H-3 Freeway near the Halawa Tunnel; Kamehameha Highway between Waiahole Valley Road and Kaaawa Place; Kamehameha Highway near the Moanalua Freeway on-ramp; Likelike Highway; Farrington Highway in Nanakuli; Nimitz Highway; Ala Moana Boulevard between Piikoi Street and Atkinson Drive; Moanalua Road; and Kaneohe Bay Drive.
