McKinley hosts nation’s
largest used book sale

The largest used book sale in the United States began yesterday and will run through Saturday at McKinley High School cafeteria.

There will be more than 150,000 assorted books, paperbacks, magazines, CDs, DVDs, videos, encyclopedias and special collector items to choose from at the 57th annual book sale. Proceeds will go to the Hawaii State Public Library System to purchase books, equipment, performance programs and continuing education grants for branch libraries.

Last year, the book sale raised more than $120,000 to provide for 50 public libraries. Since 1952, the Friends of the Library of Hawaii has raised more than $5 million for HSPLS.

The Friends of the Library of Hawaii is a nonprofit organization that has promoted and supported public libraries for the past 125 years.
