"SIMPLY CONNECTED" PREIMIERES AT KAISER: The event was "gray concrete" rather than "red carpet," but the Kaiser High School Film Project Team couldn't have cared less as "Simply Connected," the film they had written and produced, was screened for an invitation-only audience in the Kaiser High Gymnasium last Friday. Aaron Yoshino, seventh from left, Supervising Alumnae and co-producer, and student director/producer Kaetlen Bursey, eighth from left, celebrated at the door with production crew member Ivan Kim, left, and cast members Rachel Bonilla, Dean Timmerman, Michelle Ip, Howard Ip, Sarah Yuen, Kelly Tenn, Jaime Yoshino, Adam Ikeda and Michael Heu. A public screening of the group's look at friendships, romance and high school life is planned for sometime this fall

ANOTHER F.B.S.("FRANKIE B. SIGHTING")!: Lloyd Kendall, right, was stoked to encounter island comedian, falsetto singer, and much-missed radio personality Frank B. Shaner at the preview party for "Artists of Hawaii 2004" at the Honolulu Academy of Arts on June 30. Shaner, whose 10 year run as the witty and popular "morning drive" personality at a Honolulu radio station was mysteriously terminated in January, confirmed that the 10th annual Aloha Festivals Frank B. Shaner Falsetto Contest will take place this year as usual, but in the new location, the Hawaii Ballroom at the Sheraton Waikiki, on Sept. 11. The winners from previous years are expected to attend.

ART OF HAWAII: Kathleen Kam's carved and painted gourds are perhaps the most purely Hawaiian items in "Artists of Hawaii 2004" at the Honolulu Academy of Arts. The birds, leaves and blossoms in "Ka Manu o Ka 'aina," front, are precise scale carvings of island species. Kam attended the preview party June 30.

EMILY'S BACK!: Emily Lopez served gourmet delights whipped up by personal chef Francesco Valentini, center, at her pre-Independence Day "Social Club Kick Off Party" atop Century Center last Friday. Bobby Brooks, right, took a break from campaigning for the State Senate (District 12) to enjoy the party.

GOING RETRO: Hair models Kaitlyn Metcalf, left, and Justine Michioka, right, relaxed with Sean D and Longhi's manager Mary Ann Bowman after the Salon (808) Retro Fantasy Hair Show during "flight one" at Longhi's last Friday. Longhi's was pumping till closing, and the crowd included a number of A-List nightclub party people.
