Matsumoto to defend Oahu Country Club title

Mervin Matsumoto will return to defend his championship in the 41st Oahu Country Club Men's Invitational next week.

The 54-hole tournament begins Thursday with the final round set for Saturday and features both individual and team competition. The field will be cut to the low 35 players and ties after the second round. Play starts at 7 a.m. the first two days and at 12:30 p.m. for the final round.

The team championship will be contested over the first two days.

Matsumoto will be joined in the field by former champions Brandan and Wendell Kop and 2003 Manoa Cup champion Kellen-Floyd Asao.

Pacific Cup race concludes seventh day

Two yachts from the Kaneohe Yacht Club continue to lead the A division of the West Marine Pacific Cup. First Light and Ghost are taking different paths in the race but are battling neck and neck. The West Marine Pacific Cup began seven days ago in San Francisco and concludes in Kaneohe. First Light is traveling a more southerly route, while Ghost clings to a northern and more direct route to Kaneohe.

Ikaika is second in the B division behind California Girl. Kaimiloa, which led the E division early in the race, has dropped to sixth. Andiamo and Surprise top the E division.
