11-year-old Moore dominates NSSA nationals

Eleven-year-old Carissa Moore won three national titles, including the Open Women's Governor's Cup, at the National Scholastic Surfing Association championships at San Clemente, Calif., last weekend. Moore also won the 2004 Kalani Robb Most Inspirational Performance Award.

In addition to the Open Women's crown, Moore won the Explorer Women's and Middle School Girls titles, making her the youngest competitor to win the Women's Open and Explorer divisions and the second female to win the NSSA's "Triple Crown."

Lahaina's Clay Marzo won the NSSA's Open Juniors and Explorer Boys championships. Kiron Jabour of Haleiwa won the Explorer Menehune title and fellow Haleiwa surfer John John Florence won Open Boys.

Honolulu's Ezekiel Lau and Hana's Ola Eleogram placed in three events each. Princeville's Tyler Newton, Kahuku's Makamae De Soto, Haleiwa's TJ Barron, Hana's Hank Gaskell and Honolulu's Ned Snow all placed in two events.

Kahuku was eighth in the High School Team standings.

Asics undefeated at Junior Olympics

Asics Rainbows 16 Club remained undefeated heading into the final day of the 25th USA Junior Olympics Boys Volleyball Championships at the Austin Convention Center in Austin, Texas.

The Asics team won all three of its matches yesterday in straight sets and is seeded second in today's gold bracket quarterfinals.

Outrigger Canoe Club's 18 Club and 16 Open teams suffered their first losses of the tournament yesterday but remain in contention for the gold bracket championship. OCC 18 fell to Tool City (Pa.) 2-1, while OCC 16 lost to North Shore (Wis.) 2-1.

In other results, Onipa'a 18 Club won two matches and Ku'Ikahi 18 Open split its two matches. Onipa'a 16 Club and Outrigger 13 Club went 2-1, and Molten-Hawaii and Ku'Ikahi went 0-3 in the 16 Club division.

Local players advance in Norway

Punahou graduate Stein Metzger and partner Dax Holdren upset the sixth seeded team of Andrew Schacht and Josh Slack of Australia 21-14, 21-19 yesterday in the ConocoPhillips Open in Stavanger, Norway.

Two more Punahou products, Sean Scott and Kevin Wong, also remain in contention in the tournament. Scott and partner Todd Rogers advanced to today's third round as did the team of Wong and Eric Fonoimoana.

Morpheus moves ahead in Pacific Cup

Morpheus sailed into the overall lead after the fifth day of the West Marine Pacific Cup race from San Francisco to Kaneohe.

The Schumacher 52 based out of Richmond Yacht Club in San Francisco also leads Winnetou in Division E.

Other division leaders are First Light (Division A), California Girl (Division B), Inspired Environments (Division C), Surprise (Division D) and Eyrie (Doublehanded).
