Reminders are issued on new air travel rules
State and federal transportation officials are reminding passengers to follow airport rules when packing for trips during the busy summer travel season.
"We want our passengers to have a pleasant airport experience," said Rod Haraga, state transportation director.
"Keeping the security lines brisk and moving is part of that experience, but we also need the public's cooperation in doing so."
Some of the following rules that have been in effect will be enforced this summer:
» Each passenger will be allowed to check in two bags before boarding. Each can be no heavier than 50 pounds for domestic and interisland flights and no heavier than 70 pounds for international flights.
Passengers will pay $25 for baggage that exceeds the limit for domestic and interisland flights.
Additional fees on international flights vary by destination.
» Each passenger will be allowed two carry-on bags. For example, a woman can take a purse and a carry-on, while a man can bring a briefcase and a carry-on.
» Remove prohibited items in carry-on luggage.
Items such as pocketknives, box cutters and other prohibited items can hold up airport lines.
