Sasada, Stubblefield win match play titles
Brian Sasada and Larry Stubblefield won the championship and senior divisions yesterday at the Aloha Section PGA Turtle Bay Resort Match Play Championship.
Sasada dominated Matt Pakkala early when Pakkala bogeyed six of the first nine holes. Sasada then hung on to win 4-and-3.
In the senior division final, Stubblefield birdied No. 14 to close out the match 5-and-4 against Steven Hookano.
Matches were played on the resort's Arnold Palmer Course, and the event featured a total purse of $8,000.
Tango moves into lead in West Marine Pac Cup
Tango made 165 nautical miles in pleasant weather to take the overall lead at day two of the 13th biennial West Marine Pacific Cup.
The race runs between San Francisco and Kaneohe.
Kaneohe Yacht Club's Ghost has the Division A lead (Tango is racing in Division B). Its crew reported steady winds and 8-foot seas.

Islanders win medals at Hayward track classic
EUGENE, Ore. >> A trio of Hawaii residents won medals for their performances last weekend at the 2004 Hayward Classic, a track meet for masters athletes age 30 and up.
Sixty-eight-year-old Jerry Fasteen won gold medals in the shot put and Super weight throw, silver medals in the hammer throw and weight throw and a bronze medal in the discus. He also placed fourth in the discus.
Ron Pate, 57, won golds in the 3,000 meters steeple chase and the 800. Ed Cadman, 59, won a silver medal in the 5,000 meters.
Former UH coach Johnny Faerber served as the meet's director.
Outrigger undefeated in day 1 of Junior Olympics
Outrigger Canoe Club's 18 Club, 16 Club and 16 Open teams all finished undefeated in pool play yesterday as the 25th USA Boys Junior Olympic Championships opened at the Austin Convention Center in Texas.
Asics Rainbows also went 3-0 competing in 16 Club.
Seven other Hawaii teams also began competition with Ku'ikahi going 2-1 in 18 Open; Molten 1-2 in 18 Club and Onipa'a 0-3 in 18 Club.
Onipa'a also competed in 16 Club and Outrigger in 13 Club. Records were not available.
Play continues today through Saturday's championships.
Seven other Hawaii teams will begin their four-day competition on Sunday: Asics Rainbows, Pilipa'a and Side Out (17 Club); Ku'ikahi, Onipa'a and Outrigger (14 club) and Asics Rainbows and Outrigger (12 club). A total of 345 from the U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico are in the event.
