Jennifer’s outstanding
shopping excursion

J is for Jennifer: Jennifer Robideau -- outstanding last weekend in the title role of Troy M. Apostol's production of "The Rape of Lucrece" -- lucked out recently when she and a gal pal went shopping for monogrammed clothes. The store they hit was out of suitable items except for two alphabets -- and "J" was one. Robideau, who picked up a black "ballet top" with pink monogram, volunteers that as yet her wardrobe includes no monogrammed underwear. On a more serious note, Robideau not only gave a Po'okela Award-worthy performance as Lucrece but also wrote an erudite article for the playbill that described how the issues of lust, rape, female chastity, male chauvinism, and suicide have been addressed in various interpretations of the story since William Shakespeare wrote the poem that Apostol used as the script for the show ...

INTERESTING PEOPLE: Among the stand-out performers in "Under A Tropic Moon" at the Hawaii Theatre last weekend was Jeff Ball, making his stage debut at 37 with an entertaining portrayal of Henry Meyer in "They're Wearing 'Em Higher in Hawaii." Also noteworthy were Kahanuolaonalani Zuttermeister (the blue woman with a yellow duck) and Noreen Kehaulani Hong-Von Rohr and her husband James Von Rohr, who made a cute couple as the stars of "Pineapple Princess." The Wiki Waki Woo Serenaders provided the music for the "Wacky Songs" segment, while Mark Yim & The Blue Hawaiian Band backed hula dancers Kahulaaulii Guinn, Hauolionalani Kim and Kahanuolaonalani Zuttermeister for their exquisite performance of "Lovely Hula Hands" ... And yes, that was Rory Wild of Hot 93.9 keeping to the straight and narrow as the show's emcee. Wild said afterward that he tried sneaking in a few snide ad libs during a rehearsal but "just one look" from kumu hula Noenoelani Zuttermeister Lewis convinced him to stick to the script. Wild also confirmed that the "wardrobe malfunction" with the giant lei Sunday afternoon wasn't in the script ...

HAPPY BIRTHDAY: To Michael Lanakila Casupang and Joan Landry, who are celebrating tomorrow ... and to Katie Leiva, Jacqueline "Honolulu Skylark" Rosetti and Russell Tanoue, who will be celebrating on Wednesday ...

CONGRATULATIONS: To Dub Phylum on beating Mixed Nutz for top honors in the "Star 101.9 Budweiser True Music Challenge" at the Wave Waikiki on Saturday. Dub Phylum opens for Liz Phair tomorrow night at Bayfest and also won a "development contract" from huimusic.com. ...
