Hayashi ties for 27th at club pro championship

Mauna Kea teaching pro Kevin Hayashi carded a final round 77--290 to share 27th place with 12 other players at the PGA Club Pro Championship at Nashport, Ohio.

Hayashi earned $3,161 after the 72-hole tournament at the Longaberger Golf Club.

Koolau Golf Club's John Lynch finished with a 79--301 to share 64th place with two others. He earned $1,290.

Bob Sowards won the event by a stroke with a 276, making up eight shots on the front side as third-round leader Jeff Coston.

Pacific Cup yacht race sets sail

The first yachts in a fleet of 53 were scheduled to set sail today, the first of five starting days for the 13th West Marine Pacific Cup Yacht race from California to Kaneohe Bay.

The event, with competitors from Hawaii, Washington, Oregon, California and Japan, is held biennially. It was first held in 1980.

The Hawaii entries are Ghost, Kaimiloa and Cirrus from Kaneohe Yacht Club, and Ikaika and Niele out of Hawaii Yacht Club.
