Offer on the table
for Wahine job

Hawaii athletic director Herman Frazier has made a job offer to one of the three finalists for the vacant women's basketball coach position and it appears that it isn't current Rainbow Wahine associate coach Da Houl.

According to UH media relations director Lois Manin, speaking on Frazier's behalf, "The offer is on the table and (Frazier) hopes to have a coach in place soon."

Frazier said June 14 that he anticipated replacing the retiring Vince Goo within two weeks.

Houl, who has been with the program as a player and assistant for 16 seasons, met with Frazier yesterday. She declined comment other than to say, "It's not me."

Former UNLV coach Jim Bolla, another finalist, could not be reached for comment yesterday. The name of the third finalist has not been released.

Meanwhile, Wahine assistant Gavin Petersen confirmed yesterday that he had been contacted by Idaho State coach Jon Newlee about joining the Bengals' staff.

Newlee was on the Wahine staff for three seasons before taking the ISU job in March 2002.

"I'm going to weigh all my options," said Petersen, a UH assistant for the past two seasons. "We'll see how this (UH) situation goes."
