Hayashi tied for fifth at club championship

Mauna Kea Resort pro Kevin Hayashi had seven birdies en route to a 4-under 68 yesterday, putting him in a tie for fifth going into today's third round of the PGA Club Professional Championship at Nashport, Ohio.

Hayashi was at 139, five strokes behind Jeff Coston, who set a course record yesterday with a 64. Koolau Golf Course pro John Lynch was tied for 41st at 145 after carding a 75 yesterday.

The top 25 finishers in the 72-hole medal-play tournament qualify to play in the PGA Championship Aug. 12-15 at Whistling Straits in Kohler, Wis.

Scott wins U.S. sailing championship

Michael Scott of Kaneohe Yacht Club captured first place in his division at the U.S. Youth Sailing Championship at Charleston, S.C., which closed on Thursday.

Scott, 18, finished with 48 points to win the 30-boat laser fleet competition. Todd Hawkins of New Jersey placed second in the four-day event with 56 points.
