Members of the Society of Creative Anachronism ran out of a center circle to commence fighting yesterday during a demonstration at the Honolulu Academy of Arts. Whether it be a Mongolian warrior or an English squire, each member wears different armor appropriate for that chosen time period. All weaponry used in tournaments are modified for safety since full contact and blows are used in the matches. Fighters use the honor system and drop to one or two knees when hit on the legs and use one arm if a blow is received on that limb. The SCA is an international organization of individuals who research and recreate medieval arts; visit www.sca.org for more information on the group.

Richard Tamaru helped his son Daniel, 11, clean Saturday at the Honolulu Memorial Park. The Tamarus, who were part of the Boy Scout Troop 181, and other volunteers pitched in on maintenance of the four-acre cemetery, which includes Kyoto Gardens. The cemetery has struggled with financial issues and is in the process of securing a financial trustee.
