Campaign warns about 'Phishing'
Local consumer-protection groups are taking part in a nationwide campaign to teach consumers how to avoid "phishing" scams, a form of identity theft in which people are tricked into revealing personal information through fake Web sites and e-mail replies.
The Better Business Bureau of Hawaii and the state Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs are joining with Call For Action, the Federal Trade Commission and Visa USA in the campaign.
Anti-phishing resources will be made available online at www.hawaii.bbb.org, www.bbb.org/phishing, www.callforaction.org, www.consumer.gov/idtheft and www.visa.co/phishing.
Phishers typically try to get consumers to reveal credit or debit account numbers, checking account information, Social Security numbers and bank account passwords.

Ford Island venture changes name
The companies that were jointly awarded the master development contract for Ford Island as Fluor Hawaii LLC have changed their collective operating name to Ford Island Properties LLC.
The two companies, Hunt Building Co. and Fluor Federal Services LLC, were jointly awarded the Navy contract last July. The companies have worked to improve Ford Island's infrastructure during the past year, said Chuck Read, project director for Fluor Federal Services. "Later this summer we will begin construction of new electrical distribution, telecommunication and sewage collection systems," he said.
