Tsugio "Mori" Morishige worked on a multicolored throw net yesterday at Ala Moana Beach Park. Morishige said he has worked on the handmade net for two months, and estimated it will take another month to complete it, at which time it will have a span of 9 1/2 feet. Morishige said he is self-taught in the art of net-making, with his inspiration being his grandfather, with whom he used to fish.

The first of 50 "Geckos in Paradise" that will be placed around the island was unveiled yesterday in a downtown ceremony. Artists Lynn Ohtani and Chuck Davis posed with their "Echo Gecko." Ohtani decorated the 5-foot-long gecko, which was designed by Rochelle Lum, while Davis assisted and supported Ohtani. The display, organized by the Kapiolani Health Foundation as a fund-raiser for the Comprehensive Breast Center at Kapiolani Medical Center, is designed to raise awareness of women's health issues.
