The Bloomberg Honolulu Star-Bulletin Index is a price-weighted index designed to measure the performance of Hawaii-based companies. The index was developed with a base value of 100 as of December 31, 1999. A chart of the index which shows the weekly performance of its members is published weekly in the Honolulu Star-Bulletin.



Biotechs rise


Mera Pharmaceuticals Inc. and Cyanotech Corp., the two lowest-price stocks in the Bloomberg Honolulu Star-Bulletin index, had the biggest percentage gains in the holiday-shortened week. Mera rose 20 percent to 3 cents while Cyanotech gained 5.4 percent to $1.36.

Hawaiian Holdings Inc., the parent of bankrupt Hawaiian Airlines, ascended 3 percent to $5.10 to boost its year-to-date gain to 70.6 percent and hit its highest closing level since $5.25 on July 31, 1997.

Barnwell Industries Inc. brought up the rear as it slipped 1.7 percent to $42.50.
